Installation Guide

  1. Download the Coolly Tools V4.3.jsx file and save it to a suitable directory (e.g., Documents/Adobe/After Effects/Scripts/).
  2. Copy the .jsx file to AE’s script directory:
    • Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects <Version>\Support Files\Scripts\ScriptUI Panels\
    • MacOS: /Applications/Adobe After Effects <Version>/Scripts/ScriptUI Panels/
  3. Open AE and go to the “Window” menu to find “Coolly Tools” and launch the panel.

2. Features Overview

Coolly Tools V4.3 has four main sections:

  1. Category Selection (Top Buttons)
  2. Resource List (Middle Listbox)
  3. APPLY Button
  4. Bottom Panel (Import, Actions, Settings, etc.)

1. Category Selection

The top row contains four buttons, corresponding to different types of resources:

  • Scripts: Manage and execute .jsx script files.
  • Expressions: Manage and apply After Effects expressions (.txt files).
  • Presets: Manage .aep preset project files for quick import.
  • Effects: Manage AE built-in effects, allowing quick application to selected layers.

Click the respective category button to view and manage that type of resource in the list.

2. Resource List

  • Supports Pinning Items
    • Pinned items show ●, unpinned items show ○.
    • Double-click an item to toggle between pinned and unpinned states, making frequently used items easier to access.
  • Supports List Refresh
    • Newly imported items are automatically saved and will persist even after restarting AE.
    • Click the “Refresh” button to reload all resources.

3. APPLY Button

Select an item from the list and click APPLY to perform the corresponding action:

  • Scripts: Executes the .jsx script.
  • Expressions: Applies the selected expression to currently selected properties.
  • Presets: Imports the .aep preset project into AE.
  • Effects: Applies the selected effect to currently selected layers.

Important Notes:

  • Before applying an expression, ensure you have selected the right property in the composition (e.g., Position, Scale, etc.).
  • Before applying an effect, ensure you have selected at least one layer in the composition.

4. Bottom Panel Features

① Import Files

In the “Import Files” tab, you can:

  • Import Scripts: Select a folder containing .jsx scripts to add them to the list.
  • Import Expressions: Select a folder with .txt files to import expressions in bulk.
  • Import Presets: Select an .aep file and add it to the preset list for quick access.
  • Import Effects: Search AE built-in effects and add them to the effects list.

② More Actions

  • Delete: Remove selected items from the list (does not delete the source file).
  • Check Duplicates: Detects and removes duplicate expressions.
  • Refresh: Reloads all lists and their statuses.

③ Settings

  • Reset: Clears all data and resets settings to default.
  • Help: Opens this user guide.
  • Update: Visit the Coolly Tools website to check for the latest version.

3. Usage Tips

  1. Adjust the panel size to improve visibility of the lists and buttons.
  2. Double-click items to pin them for easy access to frequently used scripts, expressions, presets, or effects.
  3. Ensure correct composition and layer selections before applying expressions or effects.
  4. Keep script and expression folders organized to maintain a clutter-free workspace.
